I’ve been using Atahualpa theme for a looooong time — at least a decade, possibly longer. I am very fond of it because the extent to which it can be customized reminds me of Greymatter, the self-hosted blogging software I used before WordPress and one on which WP is actually based. We’re old friends.
Unfortunately, WP’s new 5.5 version has broken Atahualpa. The creators haven’t bothered updating Atahualpa for a very long time and they’re not about to start now, so there is no fixing this.
I run several sites on this theme so I’m pretty pissed off.
There’s another theme called Genesis Framework which I’ve been eyeballing, also for years, which looks like it’s at least as flexible as Atahualpa is. Only problem is it’s not free, but I only pay the one time and I never have to pay for it again, plus I can install it on as many sites as I like. Unlimited updates for as long as they continue updating it. YES LAWD. It would not hurt my feelings to have this for another decade or so. Money well spent. It’s sixty bucks. I’ve spent more on Netflix and I hardly ever use it anymore. (About to cancel Netflix, too.)
So that’s probably what I’ll do. I’m really not happy with the free stuff out there and WP’s native themes frankly suck. Just the way it is.
Not gonna happen til Wednesday at least, though. SIGH.
